We have gathered a panel of speakers with the main purpose of:

  1. updating the Portuguese scientific community involved in Integrated Structural Biology in the current situation of the European Infrastructure Instruct;
  2. informing the participants of success stories of the use of the platforms available through Instruct, with national and international examples;
  3. further motivating the Portuguese scientists to take advantage of Instruct as researchers of a member country of this infrastructure.

Portugal has set up the Portuguese Centre for Integrated Structural Biology (PCISBIO) which was approved as an Affiliate Centre of Instruct-ERIC

This Centre integrates research groups from six Portuguese Universities and one private non-profit Institution. Since 2012, the Portuguese participation at Instruct has been financially supported by the Portuguese funding agency, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologiaand from 2018 until 2020, ITQB was the Institution representing Portugal at Instruct and the support was endorsed by those institutions. From 2020 onwards FCT will fund again the Portuguese fee, a commitment that was assumed by this Institution for the next four years.

We would like to call your attention to the fact that researchers from all Portuguese research institutes and universities can apply and benefit from the activities organized by Instruct, even if they are not integrated in one of the founding member universities.

Since 2017 to the end of 2020, Instruct has secured 3.950 million euros within Horizon 2020 for expanding the implementation of its services to the community. The aim of the new project, Instruct-ULTRA, is to advance the scope and efficiency of Instruct service delivery. ITQB is one of the 14 members of Instruct-ULTRA.

PCISBIO integrates two established National Instrument Networks:

the NMR network

the Mass Spectrometry network
