Ocupação Científica de Jovens Nas Férias 2025

Last week, we had the pleasure of welcoming four high school students — Alexandre, Carina, Bárbara, and Constança — to our lab as part of the Ciência Viva no Laboratório summer internship program.

During their internship, titled “Smart Cellulose and Fog Water Harvesting”, these young minds explored how science can inspire sustainable solutions by combining natural materials with technological innovation. It was a week filled with curiosity, discovery, and lots of great questions — exactly what science needs most!

A huge thank-you to our dedicated mentors José Malta, Francisco Sousa, Mariana Silva, and João Santos, whose commitment and enthusiasm made this experience truly memorable for everyone involved.

The success of this initiative was only possible thanks to the essential support of Ciência Viva, the Faculty of Science and Technology of NOVA University Lisbon, the Department of Materials Science (DCM NOVA FCT), and CENIMAT|i3N, all of whom continue to champion the connection between science and society — and, in doing so, inspire new generations.

Science is fun, and it thrives on sharing — and weeks like this one prove that the future is in good hands.
