Catarina Geraldes

Biography

Catarina Geraldes graduated in 2013 at the Department of Conservation and Restoration of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology – NOVA University of Lisbon (DCR/FCT-UNL), where she also completed her Master in Conservation and Restoration in 2015 with the dissertation “Geopolymers as a repairing material for conservation of azulejos”, integrated in the CerAzul project: Research and development of materials and methods for the conservation of historic tiles (PTDC / CTM-CER / 119085/2010) developed at the Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil (LNEC). Since 2016 she is a Ph.D. fellow of Conservation and Restoration at FCT-UNL, Portugal, in a collaboration between FCT-UNL, LNEC and Museu Nacional do Azulejo (MNAz).
Her doctoral project is focused on the conservation and restoration of modernist Portuguese azulejos and will consist on the study of their composition, production techniques and forms of degradation, and verifying if the current restoration methods are appropriate
